Project Manager - Wind Turbine Installation

Position Summary

Granite Recruitment are seeking an experienced and driven Project Manager to lead the delivery of a Wind Farm installation project, involving the erection of 9 x Nordex N149 turbines. This role demands a results-focused individual with a proven track record in managing large-scale wind turbine installation projects, from preconstruction planning through to full handover.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, schedules, budgets, health & safety, and stakeholder communication to ensure safe, compliant, and on-time project delivery. This is a high-profile role, with autonomy and accountability for delivering a strategically important project.

This role is a fixed-term contract and is required to start ASAP. The role has the potential to go permanent for the right candidate. This is also a home based role with travel to site required.

Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution

  • Manage the full lifecycle of wind turbine installation, including civil interfaces, logistics, cranage, pre-assembly, mechanical and electrical installation, commissioning and punch list close-out.
  • Develop and deliver the Project Execution Plan, aligning with the EPC, OEM, client, and internal requirements.
  • Drive day-to-day coordination, progress tracking, resource allocation, and issue resolution.
  • Maintain full ownership of project schedule, budget, quality, and risk registers.

Team Management

  • Lead and manage a site team comprising of a site manager, HSE manager, site administrators, logistics leads, storekeepers, and technicians.
  • Ensure site teams are fully resourced and competent through active support from recruitment, training, and deployment.
  • Foster a performance-driven, safety-first culture across all teams and subcontractors.

Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality (HSEQ)

  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, LOLER, PUWER, OEM guidelines, and AES procedures.
  • Drive HSEQ KPIs, enforce RAMS compliance, and lead by example during safety inspections and toolbox talks.
  • Coordinate all HAZIDs, SIMOPs, and Lift Plans, including liaison with appointed lifting authorities and site crane supervisors.

Planning & Documentation

  • Maintain the project tracker including work packs, RAMS, method statements, manuals, DCC register, training matrix, rota, project reporting, and tool tracking logs.
  • Support the development of site-specific method statements and risk assessments.
  • Oversee documentation flow, including quality records, inspection test plans (ITPs), and installation checklists.

Commercial & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support commercial reporting, early warnings, variations, and claims with the Commercial Team.
  • Engage with the client (BMS) during regular site and programme meetings.
  • Ensure all subcontractors and suppliers are contractually aligned and delivering to expectations.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience in wind turbine installation (onshore).
  • Demonstrated experience delivering wind projects.
  • Proven ability to manage large, cross-functional teams and subcontractors in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong understanding of CDM regulations, lifting operations, WTSR, LOLER/PUWER compliance, and OEM installation manuals.
  • Competent in project planning tools and reporting software.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Attributes

  • Engineering or Construction-related degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Familiarity with SAP, Nordex Control, Upvise systems.
  • AI-savvy and open to applying technology to optimise delivery.
  • Forward-thinking, disciplined, adaptable, and comfortable challenging the status quo.
  • Experience working within ISO9001 / ISO14001 / ISO45001 certified environments.
