Principal Engineer - Analysis
The Principal Engineer interacts closely with the discipline lead and undertakes responsibilities and workloads concerning various analysis scope of works. This ranges from project assignments to tenders and studies. The Principal Engineer works with the Project Technical Manager / Tender Lead for whom the analysis work scope will be carried out. Considering proficiency, efficiency and leadership expected of Principal Engineers, they are expected to maintain several assignments simultaneously.
Here are some of the things you can expect as Principal Engineer in Ocean Installer:
- Work with lead/manager regarding deliverables/work scope and meet agreed objectives.
- Depending on the assignment, you may be deemed the best person available to lead and execute a particular work scope. In this context, you would be required evaluate the forecast target deliverable dates and set break down goals and clear deliverables with the team for which you are responsible. This includes ensuring that all required interfaces are managed with the corresponding internal or external parties.
- Independent analysis works concerning flexible and riser installations; includes setting up basis of analysis, calculating and issuing analysis reports within deadlines.
- Manage and incorporate change in data, method, vessel, etc.
- Import and use of installation vessel RAOs. Review of hydrodynamic/load case data etc.
- Perform hydrodynamic installation analysis for different subsea products (eg. pipeline, flexible products, subsea structures, spools) for tenders and projects, and support for ongoing offshore operations. This includes lift, lowering, lay, hook up and tie in, etc.
- Work as a project team member and proactively contribute to other disciplines through efficient communication.
- Contribute as a fellow discipline team member and increase OI’s analysis capabilities, including enhancing interface between installation and analysis engineering disciplines.
- Deliver all work in line with the Business Management System, ensuring quality and timely deliverables of assignments.
- Compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- When requested, review candidates for hire and provide input/recommendation to discipline.
- Available to travel to other offices or offshore, sometimes on short notice.
- Being a principal implies leadership qualities and strong desire and effort towards getting a complex job done. This includes demonstrating strong motivation, communication, and engagement.
- Support, guide, and mentor/train other members to achieve team and project targets.

- Educated to a degree level, PhD with specialisation in flexibles is advantageous
- Significant industry experience with a special focus on flexible/riser installations
- Experience with hydrodynamics
- Significant experience with subsea lift operations
- High level of proficiency with OrcaFlex/Simo/Riflex software
- High level of proficiency with current marine operations codes such as DNV, NORSOK, API
- Solid grasp of engineering design, offshore transportation and installation methods
- Knowledge and experience with programming languages like python is beneficial
- Entrepreneurial and flexible
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate high motivation to collaborate with colleagues and achieve goals
- Excellent social and organisational skills and maintain decent presence.
