Job Description

The Power Systems Designer will be responsible for the concept and
detail design of diesel, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical
and electronic systems and equipment. This role will include
coordination with other internal departments, NOV organizations and
external customers or consultants. It will also entail taking a lead
role with design certification and regulatory reviews and approvals,
code compliance, documentation preparation and reviews with the
customer.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform and/or supervise the design process including system
architecture, risk assessments, calculations, programming and drafting
to ensure designs meet technical and customer requirements - Ensure design control and product verification is applied where needed
- Provide technical expertise in support of the production of designed systems in well servicing equipment
- Develop methods to improve new and existing products and including test methods for validation
- Review and capture production or field feedback to improve or enhance designs
- Produce detailed schematics, installation and assembly drawings;
including, where applicable, coordination, checking and approval of
drafting resource - Provide power systems support for other internal departments such as Sales, Part Sales, and Service as needed
- Coordinate involvement with key internal and external customers
including suppliers, consultants, senior management and other NOV
organizations - Ensure design and production of systems is in accordance with all
current and relevant statutory requirements for destination of product
e.g. engine emissions ratings, machinery safety rules, ATEX, EMC and LVD
for European market, NORSOK for Norway etc. - In conjunction with the Technical Writer, generate product
documentation including test procedures, manuals and technical sales
publications
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Higher Education qualification in Power Systems Design (or
equivalent) preferred (Potential candidates may have only electrical
qualifications, if they can demonstrate a working knowledge of
hydraulics and mechanical components) - Experience in Hazardous Area Electrical Systems Design with relevant qualification (CompEx) preferred
- Prior experience with AutoCAD Electrical software is preferred
- Experience with selection and configuration of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) preferred
- Experience in the design and operation of energy industry service equipment is desirable
- Computer literate including good command of Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Project management experience is considered an asset
- Full, current UK car Driving Licence
