AU$229,945 Base salary plus 15.4% employer super

The National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) is Australia’s independent expert regulator for health and safety, structural integrity, well integrity and environmental management for all offshore energy operations and greenhouse gas storage activities in Commonwealth waters, and in coastal waters where regulatory powers and functions have been conferred.

NOPSEMA also administers the functions of the Offshore Infrastructure Regulator (OIR), for the offshore renewables industry. This includes the regulation of work health and safety, infrastructure integrity, and environmental management for offshore renewable energy infrastructure activities.

We are seeking skilled Decommissioning Specialists to join NOPSEMA on a full-time basis to fill current and future vacancies.

 

Role:

This opportunity within the Regulatory Operations division will allow you to apply your experience to lead or contribute to multidisciplinary team assessments and inspections.

The role is responsible for the assessment of Environment Plans for decommissioning activities and contributing to the development and improvement of regulatory frameworks for offshore decommissioning in Australia, with opportunities to work across exploration, development and operational activities.

 

Key responsibilities:

As a specialist, you will be at the forefront of our efforts to ensure that the offshore energy industry operates in an environmentally responsible manner and will be responsible for activities including:

•  Providing specialist technical skills and advice on matters relating to decommissioning activities.

•  Assessing Environment Plans and associated permissioning documents under the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act.

•  Compliance and assurance activities including undertaking inspections and investigations.

•  Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and supporting effective regulation of the offshore energy sector, in line with relevant requirements.

•  Undertaking research and analysis for input into regulatory strategies.

 

About you:

You have demonstrated specialist technical skills in one or more key areas including but not limited to:

•  offshore oil and gas facility decommissioning including project management, structural, well integrity or marine engineering; or

•  environmental impact assessment of decommissioning activities; or

•  environmental management, mitigation or monitoring of decommissioning activities.

You have proven ability in one or more of the following:

•  Regulatory capacity in managing environmental, well integrity and/or safety risk in the offshore petroleum industry.

•  Research/government/consultancy/petroleum duty holder working environment with proven ability to deliver acceptable environmental and/or safety outcomes for large-scale, high-risk activities.

•  Understand and influence policy, strategy and implement change in a regulatory environment.

You possess experience with safety case, environment plan or well operations management plan approach to regulating the petroleum industry.

You hold an appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or comprehensive experience in a relevant industry, particularly the onshore and offshore petroleum industry.
