JAB Recruitment is currently looking to source a QHSE Team Lead on behalf of our client, a leading service provider to the global offshore industry, excelling in the management and operation of support vessels. This role will be based in Aberdeen, with occasional travel to Leer required. The role will report into the Operational Excellence Manager.
Role Overview
The QHSE Team Lead provides specialist knowledge, guidance, and leadership to ensure the organisation achieves operational excellence across all aspects of the business. This includes conducting operations safely, reliably, and with minimal environmental impact and business risk.
The role is accountable for ensuring risk management activities are effectively executed in line with the Risk & Opportunities Management framework and for maintaining high standards of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) performance across the fleet.
Key Accountabilities
- Maintain the highest QHSE and operational standards across the fleet.
- Maintain and develop the risk management framework and tools to identify, assess, mitigate risks, and maximise opportunities.
- Maintain and continually improve integrated Business Management System (BMS) governance.
- Implement and maintain assurance and verification activities aligned with strategic and operational objectives.
- Actively promote positive workforce engagement and a strong safety culture.
- Champion continuous improvement and the sharing of lessons learned across the business.
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of and adherence to the Business Management System framework.
- Exhibit constructive and positive behaviours aligned with company values.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Proactively support and maintain the Operational Excellence strategy in line with business objectives.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence across assigned vessels.
- Develop and maintain Quality, Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental BMS documentation to meet and exceed verification requirements, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and relevant industry guidance (e.g. IMCA, GOMO).
- Maintain compliance with ISM, ISPS, and IMO requirements, including Document of Compliance (DOC) certification and vessel Safety Management Certificates.
- Develop and implement annual QHSE plans and KPIs; monitor performance data and drive accountability for improvement.
- Provide clear and concise QHSE performance reporting to vessel owners in line with agreed reporting frameworks.
- Maintain and administer QHSE systems and tools including BASSnet SAFIR, COMET Investigation & RCA software, and supporting risk management applications.
- Act as Investigation Team Lead for incident investigations and root cause analysis, presenting findings at the monthly Event Learning Panel (ELP).
- Develop and manage internal and external assurance and verification programmes, ensuring timely close-out of findings and corrective actions.
- Undertake risk management activities in accordance with the Risk & Opportunities Management framework.
- Maintain the business risk and opportunities register in collaboration with leadership and department heads.
- Maintain and support emergency response arrangements and act as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
- Support vendor and supplier approval, performance monitoring, and management activities.
- Coach and mentor QHSE team members, supporting their professional development and performance.
- Provide visible leadership to offshore teams through site visits, inspections, and audits.
- Promote active safety leadership across the fleet, ensuring safety tools are correctly applied and standards consistently maintained.
- Represent the organisation internally and externally, maintaining effective relationships with customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
- Support the Leadership Team with specific initiatives aligned to operational excellence and long-term business strategy.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by line management.
Experience, Competency, and Skills
- Proven experience providing QHSE leadership and advice within a marine, ship management, or offshore operational environment.
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Lead Auditor qualification covering ISO and ISM standards.
- Strong working knowledge of maritime regulatory frameworks.
- Experience supporting operations across multiple global regions and cultures.
- Strong leadership, people management, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
