Job Overview:     A natural hydrogen exploration and production Company seeks a hands-on Exploration Manager to take responsibility for all of their exploration activities from technical screening to completion of projects.  Applicants invited with a minimum of 10 years in technical exploration and at least 5 in a senior role.  You could be a senior level geophysicist or geologist looking for your next career move (full support provided) or an exploration manager.   In this exciting role, you will contribute across a broad area of strategic, tactical and operational management decisions.  You will be rewarded with an attractive package and you can work from home initially on a full or part time basis, although as the company grows this may change to a partly or full time office based role (Central London). The Company, which has been established for a few years, comprises leading oil and gas industry professionals with decades of experience, committed finances and an industry led board of executives.

Their focus is to commercialise natural hydrogen exploration & production, utilising science-led play-based models from the oil & gas and mining industries and with their experience they are well placed to achieve their mission. With existing hydrogen projects already in operation in Africa and the USA, the Company is currently completing its Series A funding round which will allow it to enter the next phase of expansion and delivery of its existing portfolio.    

With a very clear staged approach to growth, they aim to build upon their existing success, by expanding their portfolio of natural hydrogen assets as well as carrying out exploration work programmes on the existing assets. This will be achieved by evaluating the most promising regions for natural hydrogen exploration based on geological, commercial, and policy considerations.  The Company already operates its projects either as 100% owner or on behalf of a joint venture partnership, and managing the financial and commercial aspects of these joint ventures will be a key part of this role.

In this role, you will be expected to travel to attend meetings; review prospects; attend conferences; visit operation sites, develop operational relationships etc.  

Responsibilities:   Reporting to the CEO the essential responsibilities and duties are:
•    Take responsibility for the overall exploration activities of the Company. Work closely with the CEO and other geoscience team members initially to develop and execute the Company’s exploration program.
•    Build good working relationships with team members, Board, Geoscientists, and Partners.
•    Lead natural hydrogen exploration & production, utilising science-led play-based models from the oil & gas and mining industries.
•    Be proactive in identifying potential assets that are at a relatively low cost and have minimal environmental footprint.  
•    Working with your Geoscience Team and Joint Venture partners to develop and mature exploration prospects and appropriate work programmes (e.g. potential fields surveys, seismic, drilling and field work).
•    Execute the agreed work plan by planning, tendering and conducting the necessary geophysical and geological studies and surveys.
•    Devise an effective operations strategy for the drilling and testing of exploratory & appraisal wellbores.  
•    Screen, risk assess and prioritise all potential assets, based on geological, commercial, and policy considerations.
•    Assist in securing licenses for selected assets – work with CFO, CEO, licensing authorities and partners to achieve.
•    Ensure that you gain approval of exploration Work Programs and Budgets from the Government/licensing authorities, Partners and joint ventures.
•    Develop team members to build a high performance asset team for current and future needs.
•    Develop and implement a resource risking and evaluation system for the Company.
•    Compile and consistently maintain Company’s resource inventory using the agreed resource evaluation system.
•    Keep abreast of emerging trends and technologies within the natural hydrogen industry and follow exploration activities worldwide (e.g. license opportunities, peer drilling & exploration activities).
•    Be an active spokesperson on hydrogen exploration strategies for the Company.

 

Preferences:  The successful candidate will have:
•    Masters’ degree in Geoscience (i.e. Geology Geophysics…..) essential.
•    A minimum of 10 years’ resource exploration experience essential.
•    Previous experience developing exploration strategies in the Oil and Gas industry highly preferable.
•    Some international experience in the exploration of new plays desired.
•    Previous experience in senior level roles within exploration essential, preferably in an exploration or general management position, but company is open to Senior Geoscientists that are willing and eager to take on more responsibility.
•    An understanding of budgets, vendors and schedules for exploration essential.
•    The ability to prepare Work Programs for all exploration work programmes essential.
•    Highly commercial desired – ability to develop business opportunities; ability to assess a proposal and determine risks, foster partner relations…..
•    Previous experience working for a start-up advantageous.
•    Proven experience of operating in a fast-paced, change environment desired.
•    Ability to build and sustain relationships at all levels of the business, gaining engagement and commitment to ideas and proposals.
•    Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across various levels essential.
•    Confident, enthusiastic and persuasive with the drive and influence to successfully achieve the strategic direction and goals.
•    Innovative with the energy, ambition and enthusiasm to grow and lead in an expanding and evolving company and sector.
•    Strong analytical and presentation skills essential – confident to convey technical content in a coherent manner to senior stakeholders, Board, investment partners…
•    Fluency in English, written and spoken, essential.
•    Willingness and ability to travel globally.

Package:  An attractive Base Salary is on offer dependent on skills and experience.
