Working Pattern: Permanent / Full Time
As the Control & Instrumentation Department Head), you will -
Duties
- Be responsible for coordinating resources to ensure the correct personnel and competency are available for delivery of work scopes
- Have experience required in leading a team of engineers and coordinating work tasks to achieve required plan dates.
- Perform technical authority for the C&I discipline.
- Be responsible for team training and development
- Champion innovation and develop new engineering capabilities within the discipline and PD&MS.
- Support technical and commercial bids and other business development activities.
- Have knowledge of, and compliance with, client, industry and international specifications and standards. Assurance that personnel under the Department Head’s control comply with relevant documents
- Management of personnel and overall responsibility for the technical content and quality of work produced for “own discipline”, training and development.
- Accountable for coordination of all discipline input to support delivery and to ensure design integrity and consistency
- Identify and resolve any issue delaying design delivery / related procurement, irrespective of group / disciplines involved. Key aspect is to positively drive cross-discipline delivery and remove any blockers, assess dependencies between disciplines and ensure the correct sequence of workflow to provide optimal delivery and negate rework
- Identify specialist 3rd party input / PD&MS Consult input is identified and planned for execution at the correct time
- Oversee delivery of cost effective engineering solutions that are fit for purpose, safe and add value to both PD&MS and the Client. Motivation of all discipline personnel to do similarly.
- Preparation / approval of estimates and tender packages
- Overall discipline responsibility from receipt of tender / invitation to quote through to completion of the documentation package for all departmental work
- Overall technical and commercial authority for department
- Delivery of department project design deliverables in accordance with agreed schedules and priorities and ahead of the estimates in terms of productivity
- Representation of PD&MS with Clients, Suppliers / Vendors and Certifying Authorities in a professional manner
- Convening periodic departmental and inter-departmental production meetings
- Management of resources and timely identification of changes to resource requirements
- Right-sizing of discipline team and drive to utilisation of most cost effective resource where appropriate in delivering the work
- Review and monitoring of competence of engineering personnel within the department. In conjunction with Lead Engineers, management of shortfalls such as training, coaching, mentoring or other measures.
- Where applicable, responsible for ensuring that Finance Department is notified of all work which can be billed, on an ongoing basis, but monthly as a minimum
- Periodic review of company procedures and policies
- Proficient in the use of all ProTools
- Remain up to date with technical developments, client, national and international standards and legislative requirements related to the position
- Awareness and understanding of the business drivers and values
- Actively promote services of company whenever possible and source work if possible to do so
- Review personnel performance, competency and work ethic and action accordingly
- Review, or appropriate delegation of timesheets, holiday requests and working time
- Responsible for ensuring professional development is maintained and identified competency requirements are undertaken in a timely manner
- Adherence to the company integrated management system
- Compliance with quality assurance, health and safety and environmental policies
- Demonstrate and promote PD&MS QHSE principles and lead by example
- Ensure unsafe activities are challenged
- Adherence to the requirements of the best practice standards recommendations and processes in the undertaking of duties, in particular, risk assessment and control, reliability and failure prevention necessary to ensure the safe design, provision and use of tools, equipment and systems
- Demonstrate and promote PD&MS values and lead by example
- Ensure direct report performance reviews are carried out within the required timescales

About You
The successful candidate would ideally have the following skills and attributes:
- BSc in relevant Engineering Discipline
- Significant, demonstrable experience in Detailed Design Engineering and Engineering Checking/Approval
- Understanding of all Engineering disciplines
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of relevant Oil & Gas Industry Codes and Standards
- Understand the application of Autodesk Design products
- Competent in the use of MS Office applications
- Experience in managing and developing others
- Excellent written and spoken English

Specific Experience required:
- TUV certification and experience in functional safety PHA’s required to perform role as head of functional safety.
- Experience in managing team budgets, produce scope estimates and recognising and controlling scope change.
- Significant experience performing studies, equipment selection reviews, specification, technical bid evaluations and package management of equipment packages in an EPC environment or client role is highly preferred.
- Oil and Gas Control and Instrumentation Engineering experience.
- Demonstrable Experience and Knowledge in Field Instrument selection and application particularly;

- Experience in writing/checking/approving system SoW for 3rd party systems vendors listed above.
- Demonstrable Experience and Knowledge in participating in the below;
- HAZOP/HAZID and any other PHA
- Fault Tree Analysis
- LOPA
- Risk Assessments
- Workshops/Reviews
- Understanding of CE/ATEX and UKCA certification of equipment is essential.
- Experience in support to construction and commissioning activities.
