The Role
Responsible for maintaining the vessel’s stability, trim, and draft during all operational phases, including drilling, heavy weather, and rig moves. Operating from the Ballast Control Room
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor the automated ballast control system to ensure correct stability and trim of the vessel.
- Maintain optimal vessel draft, list, and trim conditions as per rig operational and weather conditions.
- Perform real-time stability calculations using onboard software and input from tank soundings and weight distribution.
- Coordinate with the Marine Supervisor, Barge Engineer, and OIM during ballasting operations, rig moves, and critical marine activities.
- Conduct and log daily soundings of ballast, bilge, potable water, drill water, and fuel tanks.
- Monitor bilge alarms, high-level indicators, and ballast system instrumentation for anomalies and respond as per emergency procedures.
- Assist with deck load planning, weight changes, and verification of centre of gravity and displacement.
- Monitor weather conditions and take pre-emptive ballasting actions during heavy seas or storm forecasts.
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance support, and troubleshooting of ballast system equipment including valves, pumps, level sensors, and control panels.
- Maintain accurate logs, reports, and stability data for audits, Class inspections, and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in emergency drills and respond as a key control room operator during events such as flooding, blackout, or fire scenarios.
- Liaise with marine contractors during rig moves and towing operations
